The automotive industry is facing major challenges. Software (both for UI/UX and autonomous driving), e-mobility and MaaS are shifting the focus of value creation and changing potential business models. But challenges always come with opportunities. It’s likely that due to the expected macroeconomics the number of sold cars per year continues to increase and at the same time the mobility landscape will change. Subscription models for individual mobility combined with self-driving electric fleets might bring specifically for urban areas significant advantages for users, companies, cities and the environment (e.g. Medium Blog Post).

Additionally, machine and deep learning will continue to change many industries. Also here BMW is on the right track with a wide range of applications (e.g. Nvidia & BMW, Open-Source Tools, Process Optimization) and guidelines. Definitely one of the reasons why BMW is such an attractive employer (e.g. Trendence Young Professionals Barometer 2020).

Helping to build successful tech products and sustainable future mobility solutions is my passion. That’s why I am very grateful to be part of the BMW Group again. During my Bachelor studies I was part of the SpeedUp Trainee Programm allowing participants to gain practical experience while studying. Since it is a great program I am happy to help a little bit to attract more jung students to join (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).

Since 2 years now I’ve been supporting our teams around the world to build the next generation of BMW Maps. Being part of relatively large-scale software development project with a global roll-out is a good learning experience. With our suppliers (e.g. Mapbox and SKT) we aim to exceed once again our customers expectations.

I believe we are on the right track in terms of working model, software architecture and product offer to deliver on this goal. One of my personal highlights was the successful nomination and kickoffs with our suppliers. Also highlightend in my testimonial published last year (e.g. LinkedIn, Facebook).

It’s great that I can spend a little bit of my time on giving back to the SpeedUp Community. We started the SpeedUp Summit and the bi-monthly Seminar Series to inspire each other and broaden horizons beyond departments.

Last but not least I would also like to thank my colleagues and mentors for their guidance and help. Being listed as Forbes 30 under 30 wouldn’t be possible without you, thank you!

Looking forward to the next years and finding opportunities in the challenges ahead!
